Vels University is a deemed university that was founded in 1992. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The Vels Institute of Science Technology and Advanced Studies has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an “A” grade. Vels University facilities such as lecture halls, spacious lecture halls, a well-equipped digital library, a fully air-conditioned auditorium, wifi, a free clinic, ATM facilities, and so on are available to the students.

Vels University scholarships for academic excellence are provided to students pursuing UG and PG courses. These scholarships are awarded based on a student's previous academic record and performance in the semesters.

Marks obtained in the qualifying examination (any government recognised board)

• If the student has a cumulative grade point average of 95% or higher in PCM, they will receive a 50% tuition cost waiver for the first year.
• 90% - 94.99% aggregate in PCM. – 40% tuition price waiver for the first year
• 80% - 89.99% aggregate in PCM. – tuition cost remission of 25% for the first year
• 70% - 79.99% aggregate in PCM. – 10% tuition fee waiver for first year

The first graduate in UG engineering courses will receive a 10% fee reduction every year.

Vels University Scholarships for MBA Programmes:

• 60% or higher in the qualifying degree and a valid score in VEE – a 10% tuition fee scholarship for the first year alone.

For students and faculty of higher education institutions, Vels University launched a campaign named "The National Innovation and Startup Policy" (H.E.I.s). It will allow the institutes to actively involve students, faculty, and staff in activities connected to innovation and entrepreneurship. This framework will also help the Ministry of Human Resource Development offer uniformity to H.E.I.s in terms of intellectual property ownership management, technology licensing, and institutional startup policies, allowing the formation of a healthy innovation and startup ecosystem across all H.E.I.s.

Vels University Online Application Process:

• Candidates must fill in the required details, attach documents, and pay the fees using a credit card, debit card, or net banking account if applying online.
• Alternatively, candidates can download the application and mail it to the Registrar, together with a DD for Rs 900/- or Rs 500/- (depending on the programme).
• Candidates should send the completed application form, registration fee, and any attachments listed on the application form.
• International students must submit the additional documentation that is needed for them.

Vels University Offline Application Process:

• The Vels University office will provide the candidate with an application form.
• The application form can be obtained by mail in a DD payable to "The Registrar" and mailed to Chennai.
• The completed application form and all of the required attachments must be delivered to the institution in person or by mail.

Dance Club: This is a club for students who wish to get involved in various cultural activities, have fun at the institute, and improve their singing, dancing, and acting skills. The Cultural Club includes music, dancing, drama, fashion parades, and other cultural activities.

Music Club: Music clubs promote, share, support, and teach music to members and the general public. Members of the club use their club time to rehearse, perform together or solo, and encourage one another in their musical endeavours. Each member can introduce the group to new music and ideas.

Short Film and Photography: The photographer develops the ideal image and presents it to the audience in its entirety. It is up to them to decide how much focus they will devote to it. Filmmakers can only regulate how long the audience looks at the image when they attain such precision.

Tycoon Club: It is an entrepreneurial development club where students can learn the techniques of business and entrepreneurship.
